Concepts & Terms
Below is a set of terms and ideas to know before you start with Solidarity Tech. The rest of the documentation covers them in more detail.
Three Interfaces
- Admin Dashboard: This is the command center for your entire organization, and can be accessed at dashboard.solidarity.tech. All resources (Websites and Pages, Events, Phonebanks, etc.) can be created, updated, and monitored from the Admin Dashboard.
- The Solidarity app: This is where a lot of the day-to-day organizing happens. You can download the iOS or Android app at solidarity.tech/app. Phonebanks and textbanks run in the Solidarity app. Power Dialer and Predictive Dialer phonebanks, and textbanks set to 'Anyone', also run on the dashboard from 'My Workflows'.
- Rank-and-File Facing Content: This is the content that all your supporters experience. Pages on your website, and emails, calls, and texts sent from your organization.
Terms
People: A contact in your database. Every record should have either a phone number or an email address on record, although you are permitted to add People without contact information. Each primary phone number belongs to only one Person. The same email can be on several People, but this usually means duplicate records that should be merged. This documentation also uses "supporter" or "user" for a Person.
Team Members: Your volunteer and staff organizers who have access to the Admin Dashboard. Every Team Member must also have a record in your People database.
Resource: An interactive object belonging to your Organization. Examples of Resources are People, Events, Email Blasts, Text Blasts, Websites, Pages, Phonebanks, Textbanks, and Donations.
Scope: Every Resource has a Scope, which determines who has access to view or modify the resource. The Scope is either a "Chapter" or an "Organization."
Chapter: Every person must belong to at least one chapter, their primary chapter. On the Standard plan or higher, a person can also belong to secondary chapters. Your account starts with a default Chapter and Organization. Chapters sort your resources and control access, for example so Team Members of a Los Angeles chapter only have access to Los Angeles resources. A new Person joins the default Chapter, unless a team member or a form picks another Chapter. Some organizations assign Chapters by postal code instead. Each Chapter has a phone number for calls and texts.
Organizations: A collection of chapters that make up a logical grouping, for example all chapters in one state. The top Organization, which holds all other Organizations and Chapters, is your Root Organization. To create more chapters and organizations, you need the Standard plan or higher.
