AI Assistants (MCP)
Solidarity Tech's MCP (Model Context Protocol) server lets team members connect AI assistants, including Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor, to their organization. A connected assistant sees only what your dashboard login can already see, in one scope.
Connecting an AI assistant needs the Professional or Enterprise plan and active billing. The root organization's AI Assistant Access (MCP) setting must be Enabled or Read only, and it is Disabled until an admin changes it.
Important: Every action an AI assistant takes is logged under your name. The assistant can only see what your role permits in the dashboard.
Setting up a connection
- Navigate to Settings → AI Assistants in your Solidarity Tech dashboard.
- Copy the MCP Server URL shown on the page.
- In your AI assistant, add Solidarity Tech as a connector or MCP server:
- Claude (Free/Pro/Max): Customize → Connectors → + → Add custom connector → paste the URL → Add.
- ChatGPT (Plus/Pro/Business/Enterprise/Education): Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT Settings. Then create a developer mode app with the URL. See OpenAI's Developer mode guide.
- Cursor: add the URL to
~/.cursor/mcp.jsonas an entry with aurlfield, then restart Cursor.
- Your assistant will open a Solidarity Tech page asking you to approve the connection. Sign in and click Connect.
What your assistant can do
Read access is included on every connection. Some reads appear only when your role has the matching dashboard permission. A connected assistant can:
- Find, count, and view people you have access to, including contact info, activity, and notes
- List your scheduled calls, follow up tasks, and saved lists
- Report on events, text blasts, email blasts, phonebanks, textbanks, and team activity
- Read existing automations
Restricted notes show only with 'View Protected Properties', and call transcription summaries only with 'View Call Transcripts'.
Optional write access
When you approve a connection, each write that the assistant asks for shows as a ticked box. You can uncheck any of them:
- Add notes to people
- Edit tags and custom properties
- Save people lists
- Schedule follow-up tasks for you
- Create and edit automations
Write access needs all of these: the organization setting on Enabled, the AI Assistant Write Access role permission, and the box checked when you connected. Each write also needs the dashboard permission you would need to do the same thing by hand. To add a write permission later, disconnect the assistant and connect it again. Every write shows in the dashboard as if you had made it there, for example on the person's activity timeline.
Note on automations: Automations created by an AI assistant are always created inactive. Nothing runs and nobody is messaged until the automation is activated. Solidarity Tech tells your assistant to activate an automation only when you ask.
Example prompts
- "How many members in the Oakland chapter have not been contacted in 90 days?"
- "Prep me for my calls this week."
- "How did Tuesday's text blast do?"
- "Add a note that Maria agreed to volunteer at the picket." (needs 'Add notes to people')
- "Build a welcome series: text on signup, wait two days, then tag them welcomed." (needs 'Create and edit automations')
- "Looks good, turn it on."
Safety notes
- Data your assistant reads is treated as data, never as instructions. The assistant is told to ignore any directions embedded in it.
- The assistant is instructed to make a change only when you asked for that change in the current conversation.
- Every tool call is recorded with the tool name, the connection, and whether it succeeded. Message contents and person data are not stored in that log.
Managing your connections
The Settings → AI Assistants page lists your connected assistants, with their access level, when each was connected, and when each was last used. To disconnect an assistant, click Disconnect next to it. The assistant loses access immediately.
Organization-wide settings and permissions
Only team members with Manage All Third-Party Integrations and Manage Chapter Structure at the root organization can change this setting. Go to Settings → Chapter Structure. Open the root organization. In AI Assistant Access (MCP), choose Enabled, Read only, or Disabled. Click Save changes.
| Setting | What it means |
|---|---|
| Enabled | Team members with the Connect AI Assistants (MCP) permission can connect assistants. Write access also needs AI Assistant Write Access |
| Read only | Assistants can look things up but can never make changes, regardless of what individual team members approve |
| Disabled | No assistant connections are allowed; any existing connections are revoked immediately |
Note: Setting access to Disabled disconnects every AI assistant in the organization immediately.
Set the role permissions Connect AI Assistants (MCP) and AI Assistant Write Access under Settings → Roles & Permissions. Without the first, the connection request is refused. Without the second, assistants are read-only.
