Email Custom Target
Email Custom Target Pages allow you to gather data from a user, and merge that data into an email with an optional PDF attachment to then send on to a campaign target. The final email contains a pre-constructed template, merged with whatever user-submitted data you design your form to collect and pass on.
This page type can be used for many unique campaigns, for example to streamline submitting wage claims to the California Labor Commission or helping workers opt-out of binding arbitration.
As an example, let's look at a replicated example of how Rideshare Drivers United uses this page to help drivers opt-out of Lyft's binding arbitration agreements.

Setting Up the Target Email
Open the page and click the Email Custom Target Details tab. In Custom Target Email, enter one or more target addresses in To. Write the subject and the body. Both can use merge tags for the form answers and the person's data. Click Save Custom Target Email. After each form submission, Solidarity Tech sends one email to the target addresses.
Allowing Supporters to Customize the Email Message
You can let supporters edit or personalize the email before it's sent to your target. This works the same way as on Email Legislator pages:
- Add a Multiline Text field to your form. In the Add New Form Field list, it is under Custom Form Fields > Keyboard Entry.
- Set its Preset Value to your default message text (this is what supporters will see pre-filled). It can include member merge tags such as
{{ user.first-name }}(see Preset values and merge tags) - Make sure Editable is set to
true - In the email body, add the field's merge tag with the
newline_to_brfilter, for example{{ your-field-name | newline_to_br }}. The email body is HTML. Without the filter, the line breaks that the supporter types disappear, and the lines run together.
When a supporter submits the form, whatever they typed in that field replaces the {{ your-field-name }} tag in the outgoing email. If they don't change anything, your default message is sent as-is.
For full step-by-step details and examples, see Allowing Users to Customize Messages on the Email Legislator page.
Preparing the PDF
A PDF is optional. You need a PDF template only when you turn on Attach PDF on the Email Custom Target Details tab. Then click Upload PDF under PDF Template Attachment and upload a fillable PDF. After each submission, Solidarity Tech fills the PDF fields with the form answers and attaches the PDF to the email. To demonstrate, you can download the Lyft Arbitration Opt-Out PDF template. Use a PDF editor that can name fillable fields to view the sample PDF template or create your own.

The value a user enters in the form field named "full_name" goes into the PDF field named "full_name". Each PDF field name must match the form field name exactly, including underscores or hyphens, in order to have its value substituted.
We recommend you create the PDF template, use your personal email address as the target email to receive the completed PDF form, and submit the completed form. Do this to test that everything works correctly and the form is being merged as you expect. Then change the target email to your actual campaign target.
Solidarity Tech builds the merged PDF on its servers, attaches it to the email, and then deletes the file. It does not keep a copy of the PDF, but it saves each signature from the form as an image file.
